A representative of Akkuyu NPP will speak at the International Technical Meeting of IAEA

The technical meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “New nuclear energy programs – becoming a knowledgeable customer” has started in the Non-State educational establishment, the Rosatom Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training (Rosatom CICE&T). The representatives of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Concern Rosatom OJSC, Rusatom Overseas CJSC (affiliates of Rosatom), IAEA’s experts have announced their participation in the event. The foreign specialists from Austria, Belarus, UK, Vietnam, Egypt, Jordan, China, Nigeria, Russia, USA, France take part in the meeting.

 

The event will take into consideration the key topics of Russian practice of the NPP construction abroad. Igor Kogay, Head of the Technical Regulation Department of the Project Company, will be a speaker at the meeting. He will make a detailed presentation about the status of the first NPP construction project in the Republic of Turkey. The event will also address the following topics: main aspects of the “knowledgeable customer” concept; clarification of main responsibilities related to development of capabilities to become a “knowledgeable customer”; case studies and development of the strategic partnership; expectations and key attributes of a “knowledgeable customer”, including legal aspects.

 

The main task of the event is to development and present recommendations to the heads of national programs and future NPP operators. The document must comprise information how to become a knowledgeable customer in terms of possessing competences and skills necessary for interaction with NPP’ suppliers, regulatory and licensing authorities, service, material and equipment vendors during the entire NPP life cycle (from start of its construction through its decommissioning).

 

The meeting will provide the countries’ representatives with a possibility to exchange information between countries regarding the nuclear energy development. It will allow learning lessons from specific research and existing nuclear energy programs. The event is expected to include the visit of its participants to Novovoronezh NPP-2 which is a reference plant for Akkuyu NPP in Mersin Province.
