Deputy Minister of Turkey met with the students in Obninsk

Deputy Minister of Power Engineering and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Ilker Sert, Director of the Department of Nuclear Power Engineering Projects Nejati Yamach arrived in Russia with a business visit. But before proceeding to the working program, they went to Obninsk to meet with the Turkish students, studying in the Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering of the Nation Research Nuclear University of MEPhI (INPE of MEPhI NRNU). The dialogue with the future Turkish specialists in the field of nuclear power engineering was to the point, as never – students will have a final exam in several days. Once again representatives of the Ministry drew the students’ attention to importance of studies and need to pass exams in time and with maximum success. Besides academic progress they also spoke on other subjects – entertainment events in spare time from studies, training program, opportunities of future employment and many others. The dialogue of the representatives of Turkish authorities with the audience lasted for more than 3 hours. Ilker Sert answered the questions, listened to the students and made some notes. At the end of communication the students thanked the Deputy Minister for the granted opportunity to get prestigious technical education in Russia and emphasized their pride that subsequently they will be the first to develop nuclear power engineering in their country. As per the results of the meeting Deputy Minister of Turkey Ilker Sert noted: «I am very glad to be here - «in the cathedral of science», and to see, how the students master complex technical disciplines. I am sure the guys will succeed and many of them will work at the first Turkish plant and develop atom for peace in our country. Russian has a unique experience in construction and operation of nuclear power plants. I hope that in the future we will also share our experience in this field with other countries. Certainly, there are some complexities in perception of information by our students in the process of studies. It should be taken into account that the guys have never studies some disciplines, for example, descriptive geometry. But they all make efforts, since big responsibility is imposed on them. I wished the students to pass the session successfully and to have a good rest before the next year of studies».

Commenting the education process, Dean for work with foreign students of INPE of MEPhI NRNU Oksana Filatova said: «Turkish students are very active and purposeful. The guys not only study hard, which is pleasant for us, teachers, but also participate in the cultural life of the city. Some of them even learn to play the violin, guitar, piano in a music school. Quite recently we had 2 cultural events – Vietnamese and Turkish parties. The students danced and performed their national songs. As you know, football is a national sport in Turkey.  The picked team of students from the Republic of Turkey does not miss a chance to assert itself and participates in the tournament on mini-football «Cup of the Peoples’ Friendship» for the second year.

In May this year exams took place in Turkey on enrollment of the third group of students for studies in Russia in the area of «Nuclear power engineering». 45 persons pretended to one vacant position, which is indicative of prestige to get education in Russia in the field of nuclear power engineering. A total of 4,500 applications were submitted.

In prospect the opportunity to transfer the education process directly to the republic of Turkey, is viewed. Commenting this topic earlier, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NPP JSC Rauf Kasumov said:  «This can be done on the basis of one of the technical institutions of higher education of Turkey. Now we are waiting for proposals from the Ministry of Power Engineering and Natural Resources concerning what universities can be engaged into this process».

After the meeting with the students Deputy Minister of Power Engineering and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Ilker Sert and Director of the Department of Nuclear Power Engineering Projects Nejati Yamach met with the Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NPP Alexander Superfin and his advisor for education Husein Chechenov. They discussed the issues of training of the specialists for the first Turkish nuclear power plant and the status of implementation of AKKUYU NPP project.
