IAEA experts highly appraised engineering surveys on Akkuyu NPP site

In the framework of assistance to the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK) the IAEA’s representatives visited the Akkuyu NPP site last August (General Designer – Atomenergoproject OJSC, Moscow) to make a peer review of the nuclear power plant siting and become familiar with the conducted engineering surveys.

The experts were interested in a broad range of issues, including hydrometeorological, engineering and environmental and geology engineering investigations as well as seismic and tectonic and geotechnical studies on the site of the first Turkish nuclear power plant. And the IAEA’s experts inspected the drilling operations on the site and in the sea, geotechnical investigations of soils in the field and the laboratory tests to identify the physical and mechanical properties of soils as well as they visited the places, where the weather station and towers are located.

Atomenergoproject OJSC has developed both the program for the engineering surveys on the Akkuyu NPP site as well as the Terms of Reference for them. Currently Atomenergoproject OJSC is performing the technical supervision of engineering surveys carried out by the Turkish contractors.
