Implementation of the Akkuyu NPP project was discussed at International Forum ATOMEXPO

 

 

International Forum ATOMEXPO-2018 took place in the Russian city of Sochi. Over 4,500 representatives from 68 countries took part in its work. 40 national delegations conducted negotiations and participated in its business program. The Republic of Turkey was represented at the Forum by representatives of the government, public and mass media.

 

Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, sent the welcome address to the Forum participants.

 

At the Forum opening ceremony Alexei Likhachev, Chief Executive Officer of Rosatom State Corporation, said: «Our Forum mirrors constantly growing interest to the nuclear power industry being the most important and integral part of the “green” generation. “Global partnership – collective success” is the subject of the jubilee Forum. And it is quite right since collaboration, cooperation, building of the long-term partnership relations enables all of us to develop and move forward together while strengthening positions of the “green” generation, an integral part of which is the nuclear power industry».

 

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano noted importance of ATOMEXPO, and the significant role Russia is playing in development of the global nuclear power industry. «I saw for myself that the Russian industry is developing, new power units and new accelerators are under construction. As to the IAEA, it is important to support development of the nuclear power industry, particularly efforts of novice countries» - he said.

 

In his speech Necati Yamaç Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, underlined that, given annual economic and population growth, Turkey has a great need of reliable energy safety, which can be provided for by diversification of power sources. «We already have a roadmap for the nuclear power industry, and the legislation was amended to encourage its development, the Turkish industry is ready to be actively involved in construction of nuclear power plants both in the country and abroad» - Necati Yamaç told.

 

At the display exposition of REIN JSC (majority shareholder of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC and developer of the Akkuyu NPP project) there was a stand of Akkuyu NPP, where meetings of interested parties, business negotiations and discussions of the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey took place over three days.

 

At the Forum site the journalists of different Turkish mass media from Ankara, Istanbul and province of Mersin, where Akkuyu NPP is to be built, spoken with the representatives of many countries, which are actively developing the nuclear power industry. Anton Dedusenko, First Deputy CEO of REIN JSC, while communicating with the mass media said: «Akkuyu NPP project is dynamically progressing and provides for bright prospects for Turkish companies to be attracted for project implementation. Negotiations with potential investors are ongoing. During the meetings and negotiations we thoroughly discuss many issue and positions. We are interested in reliable partners, who meet the highest international standards and will be involved with us in building and operation of Akkuyu NPP».

 

Yuriy Galanchuk, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, when answering questions of the Turkish journalists, said that on-site activities were underway, and they met the schedule; some facilities would be built ahead of schedule. When answering the question of a journalist from Mersin about impact of the NPP on the agricultural industry of the province, the head of the Project Company said: «Sure, it will impact! Demand on the local farmers’ products will esponentially grow. As of today we see appearance of stores nearby the construction site, some of them have Russian names. Over time the region will become the country’s energy center; specialists and intellectual elite will be followed by tourists. Many years of experience of Russia and other countries show prosperity of the regions of NPP residing».

 

Within the framework of the Forum Akkuyu NPP project was on the shortlist of the «ATOMEXPO AWARDS» contest in the category «Best Start». The international professional award is given for distinguished services of global industry companies, which made a significant contribution in development of the nuclear power industry and use of nuclear energy for the good of mankind. At the solemn ceremony the Diploma was handed over to Yuriy Galanchuk, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC.
