International power Engineering Forum «Atomexpo – 2013» opened today

V International Industry Forum «Atomexpo – 2013» started in Saint-Petersburg on the eve of the greatest event in the nuclear power sphere – 3rd international ministerial conference of IAEA «Nuclear power engineering in XXI century».

The General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano greeted: «Nuclear power can contribute to improvement of energy security, reduce impact of unstable prices for organic fuel, mitigate effects of climate change and make national economies more competitive. Our latest forecasts indicate to stable growth of the number of nuclear power stations on the planet in the next 20 years».

The plenary discussion «Nuclear power engineering in XXI century: reliable partnership for sustainable development» will take place within the Forum, in which  Deputy General Director of  “Rosatom” State Corporation  Kirill Komarov, Deputy General Director of IAEA Alexander Bychkov, Ex- Minister of Energy of the USA, Nobel prize winner in physics Steven Chu, Vice-President of WorleyParsons Jurica Tankosic, President of Areva Luc Oursel, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Corporation for Nuclear Power Energy Kailash Chandra Purohit and other will take part. Akkuyu NPP will be the world first nuclear power plant, constructed under ВОО scheme (build-own-operate). Earlier such a scheme was used in construction of the thermal generation plant, but it was never applied for construction of NPPs. The nuclear power plant in Turkey will be constructed under the reference project of Novovoronezh NPP-2 (the city of Novovoronezh, Russia), which is scheduled for commissioning already in 2014. The Chief Executive Officer of Akkuyu NPP JSC Alexander Superfin will visit and review the exposition of the International Industry Forum.

The participants will discuss the outcomes of the past year, possible solutions on the questions of atomic heritage, trends of the world nuclear fuel market and many other things within the business program of the Forum. The delegates will conduct detailed discussions on all urgent subjects of development of the nuclear power engineering. Topical sessions, devoted to the integrated approaches to development of nuclear power engineering, staff training will take part in the International Industry Forum. The participants of Atomexpo will review innovational projects in the sphere of nuclear generation. In the opinion of many experts the traditional large-scale event Atomexpo is not only a great event on the route of the forward movement of the atom for peace, but also confirmation of striving to strengthen mutually beneficial international cooperation in the nuclear power industry. The society is progressing quicker and quicker on the route of the technologic development, continuously increasing the need in output of bigger quantity of energy. WANO, as a representative of operating organizations all over the world, renders support to its members within the entire NPP operation cycle. I wish the participants fruitful work, new projects, constructive interaction and unforgettable impressions from stay in the cultural capital of Russia – Saint Petersburg!».
