Turkish delegation will discuss the future of nuclear power engineering at the conference of IAEA in Saint Petersburg (Russia)

 

Today III Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) begins its work in Saint Petersburg. In the opinion of the branch experts, this event will become the largest in the history of the nuclear power engineering. Before beginning of the forum Deputy General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Nikolay Spassky noted: «In can be said without exaggeration that it is the largest event (among forums), which has ever taken place for the entire history of the nuclear power industry in the world». The first and second conferences took place in 2005 in Paris (France) and in 2009 in Beijing (China).

 

The questions of the nuclear power engineering and the environment, nuclear safety, achievements in the field of infrastructure and development of innovations in nuclear power generation will be discussed in Russia, in the city on the Neva. Over 80 countries applied for participation in the conference, about 600 participants were registered, whereof 60 persons are government ministers or representatives of the ministerial rank.

 

Turkish delegation is stated among foreign participants of the summit. It is headed by the First Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Murat Mercan. The program of the three-day conference is rather tight. The subjects include the post-Fukushima development of the nuclear power engineering. Most countries, operating NPPs or planning to construct their first nuclear power plants, declared about continuation of implementation of their plans. The third conference of IAEA will determine the peculiarities of development of the global nuclear power engineering.

 

The Director-General of the International Agency Yukiya Amano greeted the delegates and participants: «The top-level international conference «Nuclear power in the 21st Century» will grant a valuable opportunity to discuss the long-term contribution of nuclear power engineering into sustainable development of the countries at the highest level by the ministers as well as executives of the nuclear power sector». The Head of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko noted that Russia committed to clear course towards development of nuclear power generation and considerable increase of its share in the country’s power balance.

 

The Director of the Department of the nuclear power engineering projects of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Necati Yamaç will speak at the conference at the panel session «Infrastructure, technologies and organizations - prospects». Infrastructure aspects of new programs in the sphere of the nuclear power engineering, training of the staff, new models for financing of nuclear projects, solution of the questions of handling of radioactive wastes and other subjects will be discussed at the meeting. Necati Yamaç will tell about the preparatory stage of the Akkuyu NPP construction in Mersin province (Turkey), about training of the specialists for work at the nuclear power plant, share experience on formation of the «road map» of nuclear power industry in the Republic of Turkey. The Chief Executive Officer of Akkuyu NPP Power Generation Joint Stock Company Alexander Superfin will take part in the work of the conference.

 

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with the Director-General of IAEA. «In the course of the meeting it is planned to discuss the questions of development of Russia and IAEA interaction in the field of the peaceful use of nuclear power as well as some aspects of international cooperation in the field of nuclear non-proliferation», - says the message of the Press Service of the President of the Russian Federation.

 

The international top-level conference of IAEA «Nuclear power in the 21st Century» will finish work on June 29.
