Working meeting on building of the off-shore hydraulic engineering structures of Akkuyu NPP held in Moscow

The Representative office of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC hosted meeting on design and building of the off-shore hydraulic engineering structures (OHES) of the Akkuyu NPP project. The meeting was chaired by Dmitriy Litvinenko, Deputy Design Director – Head of Design Department of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC. Cengiz Inşaat, Turkish company which will construct the OHES, was represented by Ertan Demirbaş, Project Coordinator, Hülya Karakuş Cihan, Manager for documentation development, Işıkhan Güler and Yaşar Mutlu, Consultants. The representatives of the integrated company NIAEP JSC – Atomstroyexport JSC – Atomenergoproject JSC (an affiliate of Rosatom SC) also took part in the meeting. Building of the off-shore hydraulic engineering structures is a first momentous stage of the Akkuyu NPP project.

The agenda of the meeting comprised the following issues: determination of the design responsibility boundaries, modeling and determination of geometric parameters of the chilling water distribution chamber, filtration parameters and design factors of the protective dam, water intake structure and verification of the source data for OHES design.

Dmitriy Litvinenko, Head of Design Department of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, said: «The engineering surveys are now being performed at the Akkuyu NPP site under the contract for design and building of the off-shore hydraulic engineering structures. Cengiz Inşaat is using the findings of these activities for development of the OHES design documentation, the first phase of which will be elaboration of a conceptual design. Our joint work with our Turkish colleagues was productive; we discussed a host of important technical issues, which we shall have to address and implement through common efforts».

The principle of construction service localization is being already put into practice at the preparatory stage of the Akkuyu NPP project implementation in Turkey; that meets the provisions of the Intergovernmental Agreement. One of the main prerequisite for the bidders was expertise available in building of large hydraulic engineering structures on the seacoast of the Republic of Turkey. Following the tender outcomes from nine bidders Cengiz Inşaat has offered the most acceptable terms. The tender was organized under the Turkish legislation.

The Akkuyu NPP site preparation is being performed in accordance with the permits available. The construction activities associated with the off-shore hydraulic engineering structures of the first Turkish nuclear power plant are to be commence in 2016.

For reference:

The off-shore hydraulic engineering structures of Akkuyu NPP perform protective functions in case of inclement natural phenomena as well as for sea water supply for operation of the main technological equipment of the NPP, including that of the safety-related systems. The project implementation of the contract for design and building of the OHES of Akkuyu NPP provides for: development and approval of the conceptual design, design documentation, elaboration of the working documentation, performance of the construction and installation work, start-up and adjustment work and commissioning of the OHES.
